A pycnometer (Figure) may be a small bottle fitted with a ground-glass stopper containing alittle hole. The bottle is crammed with water and therefore the top placed thereon . it's carefully wiped dry after excess water squeezes out of the opening , then weighed. alittle amount of mineral of known weight is put within the bottle with the water. the highest is replaced and excess water is wiped off. it's weighed again and therefore the mineral’s relative density is calculated.
